Novus in Youth Custody
Novus offers children and young people in custody the opportunity to change.
The Government is tackling the root cause of youth crime with an unprecedented package of education and training for young offenders, and Novus is fully supporting the reducing re-offending agenda.
To ensure our learning and skills provision remains high quality and responsive to the offenders' needs, we have proactively engaged with a wide range of partners.
Our partners provide specialist strategic input into the delivery of our provision and give us an insight into their sector to ensure we evolve and our services remain of a high quality.
They can also deliver industry-recognised programmes within custody and support individuals ‘through the gate’ into appropriate progression opportunities.
Custody to the Community
Novus is committed to helping children and young people to successfully integrate back into the community upon release.
Key partner Kinetic Youth runs the resettlement and engagement activity, making sure learners are motivated and engaged, and encouraging them to attend classes. The Kinetic team also communicates with young people who do miss classes, to determine the reasons and discuss them with a view to finding a resolution.
Youth Justice Board
The Youth Justice Board works on preventing children and young people under the age of 18 from offending or re-offending. It ensures that custody is safe and secure and addresses the causes of offending behaviour.
The YJB is national across England and Wales and commissions the activity in many areas of youth custody.
Novus works with the YJB as commissioners of the service of the education contracts of the three Young Offender Institutions in which we operate – HMYOI Wetherby, HMYOI Werrington and HMYOI Cookham Wood.
