New life starts with a new job
Adult Provision Novus Works Partner
A new job is the first step to a new start for ‘Mandy’* as she turns her life around with the support of Novus and two local charities following her release from HMP Low Newton.
‘Mandy’ first met her Novus Works employment advisor, David, three months prior to her release. David supported ‘Mandy’ with her new CV, setting up an email address and information on how to access job search platforms.
On her release, David supported ‘Mandy’ with her job search. He also introduced her to two local charities who could support her resettlement and search for employment. Recruitment Junction, a registered charity in Newcastle who support ex-offenders into work through providing details on relevant job opportunities, mock job interviews and help with compiling a Disclosure Statement and Smart Works, also a registered charity, who provide interview clothing, travel costs and advice on looking for work.
Shortly after her release, ‘Mandy’ was offered an interview for an admin officer role with a local homeless project. David supported her with guidance and tips ahead of the interview. ‘Mandy’ was successful and is now happily working in her new role.
Novus Works employment advisor David, said: “I keep in contact with Mandy to make sure she’s settled in her role and offer further support if she needs it. Mandy really feels that she has turned her life around. She was delighted with the support she received from all quarters."
Her success shows how by working together with organisations on the outside we are able to get the best results for the women we support.
