Adapting prison education to match employers needs

We make sure that every course we offer is guided by the industry advances, ensuring that our learners stay up to date with the latest trends and standards. Novus learners are empowered by the courses we teach to seek employment soon after release from prison.

After hosting an employer event at HMP Thorncross with experts from Bluegyp and Wilmott-Dixon, our education offering at the establishment has recently advanced to include a specialised course on using the latest wall plastering technology.

Through these consultations, we have identified a skills gap in the construction economy, and ordered 5 Greco Mk V pro contractor machines which our learners are taking to easily. This method of wall plastering allows for quicker applications of plaster and will soon be the leading method in the industry.

Since we have rolled out these classes, one of our learners has already been placed into a temporary position with Bluegyp working on Release on Temporary Licence, with hopefully more following soon.
