Working collaboratively with G4S to provide employment opportunities for learners

Adult Provision Novus Works Vocational

Wed 16 Jul 2025

In order for learners to be successfully rehabilitated, they need to be equipped with the skills, experience, and qualifications needed to find employment upon release. At Novus we provide learners with education, qualifications and work experience opportunities so that they can find a job and become positive members of society once released.

Novus Gower have been working collaboratively with G4S to provide work experience opportunities for learners, so that they are work ready upon release.

Work experience opportunities at Novus Gower

Learners who have completed the bricklaying qualification at Novus Gower, have been given the opportunity to apply for ‘work experience’ within the G4S Facilities Management team. The learners participating in the work experience are working on a project to build a new delivery bay behind the horticultural compound.

The project allows the learners to use their workshop taught skills in real life work experience scenarios. This project, along with gaining the CSCS card, will provide learners with the education, skills, and experience to seek meaningful employment upon release.

The project so far has been a huge success with one learner commenting that it was the best day of his time spent at HMP Parc, and he thanked the staff for their time in facilitating this. The project is showing very good progress and working in partnership with G4S has helped the education department improve their course delivery and employment opportunities for learners. Parc also have plans to expand the work experience project, incorporating the painting and decorating and carpentry workshops to work on projects around the site.

The partnership working between Novus Gower and G4S, has given learners from the bricklaying course the opportunity to engage in work experience, further enhancing their employability skills which will positively impact learners finding employment opportunities upon release. Due to the success of the current project, HMP Parc are planning on extending the project, so that more learners from different vocations can engage in work experience before release.
