Securing two job offers on release proved to ‘Andy’ that he is able to move forward with his life and create a better future.
The Story
‘Andy’ entered HMP Kirklevington Grange with a determination not to let this damage his chances of continuing to work his way up the career ladder. He was introduced to the Novus education team and embraced every opportunity to continue his personal and professional development.
He improved his Maths and English skills by completing Functional Skills qualifications, gained a certificate in Health and Safety and trained as a Fork Lift Truck Driver.
As he neared his release, ‘Andy’ was referred to his local Novus Works employment broker for an initial discussion around the key areas of work he was interested in. It was clear to see he had an excellent work ethic and a mature approach to sourcing and sustaining employment which would allow him to grow within a company. Despite having a strong career history and a well-structured CV to show case this, ‘Andy’ was hesitant about how to disclose his conviction to a potential employer.
Working closely with his employment broker, ‘Andy’s’ confidence grew. He gained advice and support on applying for work, presenting himself and his CV.
Within a week of his release, ‘Andy’ had secured two job offers from manufacturing companies. By the second week, he had accepted a full time position as a manufacturing operative for a national company specialising in creating window blinds and is now moving forward with his life and career.
