Novus education departments have once again collaborated with HMPPS and Pride in Prison and Probation (PiPP) as they contributed artworks to form part of the Manchester Pride Parade 2019.
The theme of this year’s Pride celebration was ‘Deep Space Pride: A Future World of Equality’. Education departments from HMP Buckley Hall, HMP/YOI Hindley, HMP Liverpool, HMP Risley, HMP/YOI Thorn Cross, HMP Berwyn and HMP Altcourse took this brief on board to create unique pieces of work to be displayed as part of the HMPPS involvement in the parade.
Sarah Hartley, Novus National Operational Lead for Families, said: “We want to encourage and celebrate all the different aspects of diversity that are reflected within our education departments. Giving our learners the chance to exercise their creativity, but also to learn about the importance of diversity and inclusivity is something that we feel is an important part of their education.
Not only is this a learning experience for the men, it’s also a chance for them to engage in a project as team, and to be part of something that is much larger than themselves. We see a positive change in our learners when they are given the opportunity to express themselves creatively.
All of the Novus artwork from Pride will be taken to HMP Buckley Hall, for their Inside Pride event, which is taking place on Friday 13 September.
