Employment success for learners at HMP Thorn Cross
Adult Provision Partner
Recently, at HMP Thorn Cross, great progress has been made to support more and more learners into employment, with fantastic results! Work experience is a vital part of our education delivery and it's great to be able to share real life case studies of learners using it to move into employment on release.
Working with employer partners to provide more employment opportunities for learners
Two learners recently completed their catering and hospitality courses, and both were offered release on temporary license (ROTL) placements. One placement was with Greene King and the other with JW Lees. One of the learners then went on to successfully complete their apprenticeship upon release and is now working as a Kitchen Manager with Greene King. Whilst the other learner has since been released and is working as a Junior Sous Chef with JW Lees.
Another learner has also made excellent progress and completed their catering and hospitality course. He has been working with Greene King through release on temporary license (ROTL) and has secured a full-time job and accommodation with Greene King upon his pending release.
A former learner from HMP Risley is also progressing successfully on their apprenticeship with Hydes Brewery and Total People.
Employment opportunities in Construction
There has also been employment success in the bricklaying provision at HMP Thorn Cross. Two learners have completed the VTU Brickwork course and have just started release on temporary license placements on construction projects with Wilmott Dixon. The learners will be on-site working on brick slips and injection pointing, with the possibility of full-time employment upon release.
Working with employer partners to secure more employment opportunities is integral to our employment provision. Novus have been working with Greene King over the past few years to help learners find employment with them which has been a huge success.
We also work with other employer partners across different provisions such as JW Lees, Wilmott Dixon and Hydes Brewery to widen employment opportunities for learners, so they can find the role and an employment path that suits them.
Collaboration with employers and across the wider LTE Group
Not only do we work with employer partners, but by also working with other LTE Group brands, such as apprenticeship provider, Total People, we are able to provide further employment opportunities to learners. This whole group approach ensures that, along with us sharing knowledge and learning across the whole group, Novus colleagues are able to directly work with other LTE brands, to provide employment and education pathways for learners to widen their opportunities upon release.
