Our aim is to equip all children to find, and set out on, new directions towards a positive future.
Why is career and employment support important for learners in youth custody?
Employment is a key factor in rehabilitation and reducing the risk of re-offending but can be difficult for any young person, let alone a young offender.
Novus youth offender career support
We support children to plan for their future and make informed and realistic career choices mapped to the local labour market and informed by local and national employers, and which are individually appropriate based on their interests, existing qualifications and any work experience.
Our dedicated team work collaboratively with children, with commitment and care, to plan learning and work activities around the skills and experience they will need to gain employment in their chosen career. This Personal Learning Plan covers the educational and technical qualification requirements of their career routeway and gaps in key employability standards - the employability skills required in the world of work.
Apprenticeships on release from prison
Backed by the strength of our Group and sister organisations, and in particular Total People who are a leading provider of apprenticeships and work-based training, we draw on their expertise to provide children with wider opportunities to continue their progression and prospects in the community.
Having a clear career path through an apprenticeship will help to reduce reoffending by supporting more of our learners into work.
Employment application support
We provide an extensive range of related support to help children into work and education, including application processes, the preparation of CVs, job searching and applications, apprenticeships, guidance on disclosure, interview preparation and performance.
The Novus Engagement and Resettlement Team regularly hold events for employers to attend where they can learn more about employing young offenders as well as meet the learners themselves.

We enable children to identify viable new career routeways, boost their employability beyond qualifications and professional progression, ready them for the world of work and provide them with the opportunities they need to quickly move into sustainable employment or education when they are released.
