Progression and Career Pathways

Employment is a key factor in rehabilitation and reducing the risk of re-offending. Novus provides learners with the confidence, skills and opportunity to find employment, start their career, and move in a new direction towards a positive future.

Our colleagues are experts in their field. Our knowledge of local labour market information and expectations from local and national employers, help us to support our learners to make realistic and informed career choices.

We work collaboratively with learners to plan their learning and work activities around the skills and experience they will need to gain employment in their chosen career. This Personal Learning Plan will cover the educational and technical qualification requirements of their career routeway alongside the soft skills employers look for, boosting their employability beyond qualifications and professional progression, to ready them for the world of work.

Our experienced and knowledgeable team provide an extensive range of related support to help our learners develop the skills and strategies they need to find, apply for and secure jobs. Support includes the preparation of CVs, job searching and applications, guidance on disclosure, interview preparation and performance. These services are embedded into our curriculum and are also available as value-added services.

We also provide routeways into employment post-release through Novus Works and its partnerships with leading, socially engaged employers, giving our learners access to real local and regional job opportunities, apprenticeships and training on release.

Second chance for Steven pays off

An employer recruitment event hosted by Novus at HMP Northumberland in 2019 saw Hatton Traffic Management recruit their first ex-offender. Since joining Hatton, Steven has been fully supported with his training and development by the company. He has now been in a full time role as a Traffic Management Operative for over 18 months and is looking forward to a positive future.
