Novus in Custody
A large proportion of our learning and skills provision is delivered through the OLASS contract (Offender Leaning and Skills Service). We work in partnership with Her Majesty’s Prison Service and the Skills Funding Agency to develop a personalised curriculum offer to meet the local needs of offenders, regional learning and skills strategies and national labour market information, as well as key Government policies and strategies.
We are the top performing provider of education, training and employability services to prisoners and offenders in the country. The latest inspections by HMIP and Ofsted of our provision in prisons graded 80% ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, the complete reverse of the national figure of just 33% identified in the 2014/15 HMIP Annual Report.
Novus provides high quality offender education, training and employability services, underpinned by functional English and Maths, and a path to a crime-free future.
We support over 65,000 offenders per year in the Male and Female Estate in more than 60 establishments in the North East, Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, North West, London and Kent and Sussex.
'Sam’s' digital transformation
At the start of her time at HMP New Hall, ‘Sam’ did not know how to turn on a computer. She had no idea how to begin working with technology and feared this would hinder her chances of getting a job upon release.
Since studying IT with Novus, Sam has gone from strength to strength. She has achieved her Level 1 and 2 qualifications and has even become a peer partner and classroom mentor.
Not only did she familiarise herself with technology, she also gained qualifications in Kitchen Preparation, Health & Safety and Level 1 and 2 Maths and English.
Novus has formed a number of successful partnerships which complement the high quality training and skills we deliver to learners in custody.
Our custody partners supply specialist strategic input into the delivery of our education provision and offer us an invaluable insight into their sector.
They can also provide industry-recognised programmes within custody and support learners ‘through the gate’ into appropriate progression opportunities.
We are always open to new and innovative ways to extend our reach and give even more people the chance to embark on a crime-free future, so if you are interested in partnering with us please get in touch.Partner with us
